The chart
- 40 × 31 stitches, 436 of them worked, the other 804 left as bare fabric.
- 6 DMC colours, about 6 skeins in total.
- Whole cross stitches only — no backstitch, no fractional stitches, nothing to unpick at midnight.
Finished size
| Fabric | Inches | Centimetres |
|---|---|---|
| 11-count Aida | 3.6 × 2.8 in | 9 × 7 cm |
| 14-count Aida | 2.9 × 2.2 in | 7 × 6 cm |
| 16-count Aida | 2.5 × 1.9 in | 6 × 5 cm |
| 18-count Aida | 2.2 × 1.7 in | 6 × 4 cm |
Add three inches all round for hooping and framing: on 14-count that means cutting about 9 × 9 inches.

Skein counts include a 20% margin, because running out of a dye lot halfway through is the one mistake you cannot stitch your way out of.
